Een eSIM (embedded SIM) is een digitale simkaart waarmee je een mobiel abonnement activeert zonder fysieke simkaart. Hij zit in je apparaat ingebouwd en kan digitaal worden geprogrammeerd met je providergegevens.
Na aankoop van een eSIM-abonnement ontvang je een QR-code. Scan deze met je telefoon om het eSIM-profiel te installeren. Daarna kun je het databundel activeren en mobiele data gebruiken in je bestemmingsland.
We raden aan de eSIM vóór je reis te installeren en het datapakket te activeren zodra je op je bestemming bent. De geldigheid gaat meestal in zodra de eSIM verbinding maakt met het lokale netwerk.
Ja. De eSIM werkt naast je bestaande simkaart: je behoudt je nummer voor bellen en sms en gebruikt de eSIM voor data. Stel de eSIM in als datalijn in je telefooninstellingen.

Ja, dat raden we sterk aan. Je kunt thuis installeren; bij aankomst maakt hij vaak automatisch verbinding met het lokale netwerk.
Veel moderne telefoons kunnen meerdere eSIM-profielen opslaan, maar het aantal tegelijk actieve profielen verschilt per toestel — check de specificaties van je apparaat.
eSIM wordt ondersteund op onder meer iPhone XS en nieuwer, Samsung Galaxy S20 en nieuwer, Google Pixel 3 en nieuwer en vele andere smartphones. Raadpleeg de fabrikant voor een volledige lijst.
iPhones vanaf de iPhone XS (2018) ondersteunen doorgaans eSIM. Let op: sommige iPhones die in het Chinese vasteland zijn gekocht, hebben mogelijk geen eSIM.
Veel Android-toestellen ondersteunen eSIM. Controleer in Instellingen → Verbindingen / Mobiel netwerk of er een optie is om een eSIM toe te voegen.
Dat hangt af van het gekozen pakket. Als hotspot in de functies staat, wordt dit meestal ondersteund. Bekijk de pakketdetails vóór aankoop.
Volledige terugbetaling als de eSIM niet is geïnstalleerd of geactiveerd. Zodra de eSIM op een apparaat staat, is restitutie niet mogelijk. Neem bij problemen contact op met support.
Alle prijzen worden in euro (EUR) getoond. Je bank kan wisselkosten rekenen als je in een andere valuta betaalt.
Als je databundel op is, stopt de data. Je kunt een nieuw eSIM-pakket kopen. De geïnstalleerde eSIM blijft op je apparaat staan.
For most short-term travel, yes. eSIM avoids airport SIM queues, lets you install before flying, and you keep your home physical SIM for voice/SMS. Physical SIMs only beat eSIM in countries where the local prepaid plan is dramatically cheaper than any travel eSIM and you stay long enough to justify the swap.
Most travel eSIMs allow hotspot/tethering so you can power a laptop or share data with a travel partner. Some "unlimited" plans throttle hotspot speed after a daily cap — check the product page before purchase.
Yes. Regional eSIMs cover multiple countries on a single QR profile (Europe 30/40, Asia 20, Balkans 5, Central America). Global eSIMs cover 100–190 countries with one QR. Country plans only work in their listed country.
Usually yes — once you turn airplane mode off after landing the eSIM connects to a partner network within seconds. If it does not connect, manually pick "Auto" network selection and toggle data roaming ON for the eSIM line (this is safe because the eSIM has its own prepaid allowance).
Yes. All iPhone XS and later support eSIM (US iPhone 14+ is eSIM-only). On Android: Google Pixel 4+, Samsung Galaxy S20+ globally, Galaxy S23/S24 in many regions, plus most modern Huawei, Oppo and Xiaomi flagships. Check Settings → Mobile/Cellular → "Add eSIM" before buying.
No — travel eSIMs are data-only. Keep your home physical SIM as the voice/SMS line. Use WhatsApp, iMessage, Telegram, Signal, FaceTime or Google Voice for calls over the eSIM data line.
For most providers the validity countdown starts the first time the eSIM connects to a local network in the destination — not at purchase. So you can buy days or weeks ahead without burning validity time.
Yes — eSIMs that never installed or never activated can be refunded. Once you activate and consume data, partial refunds depend on the provider policy. Always check the refund terms before purchase.
Modern iPhones store at least 8 eSIM profiles (only 2 active at once). Most modern Androids store 5–8 profiles. You can keep one eSIM per country/region and activate only the one you currently need.
Almost always. Pocket Wi-Fi devices cost €5–€15 per day to rent, plus a daily data allowance. An eSIM for the same duration usually costs less than a single day of pocket Wi-Fi and you do not have to carry another device or charger.
